\r\nParticipants:<\/strong> \u00a0Martin, Luz, Javier, Phil (I tried to patch in Eveling but WhatsApp only allows 4 people per conference call.)
\r\nToday\u2019s Progress:<\/strong> \u00a01) Martin finished pouring the concrete for the first break-pressure tank, I believe located across from Zeleyda\u2019s house. \u00a0This is a pretty significant accomplishment since this required #3 rebar on 12\u201d centers Both vertically and horizontally. \u00a0It also required three inserts of 2 inch pipe for the inlet, outlet and overflow to be embedded within the concrete. \u00a0Two box-shaped wood forms were required one inside the other to form the four walls of the tank. \u00a0See photos of the work in progress in prior post. \u00a0Per Javier\u2019s direction, Martin will leave the forms in place for three days to allow adequate curing, but still allow easy removal of the forms. \u00a0Martin still plans a second, small pour to insert a half-height wall inside the tank. \u00a0He left exposed rebar coming up from the bottom to ensure a strong connection for this short wall. \u00a0This pour will be done after the forms are removed. \u00a02) Martin\u2019s team excavated the site nearby and just upstream of the break tank for a junction valve box. \u00a0
\r\nQuestions or Issues:<\/strong> \u00a01) Martin mentioned that the weight of the concrete on the form started to cause a deformation of the form so he had to install additional wood reinforcement to hold it together.2) Martin asked for construction details for the tank lid. \u00a0The drawings are admittedly vague on the design suggesting a 50 mm (2 inch) thickness but without details on rebar reinforcement. \u00a0Javier and I took and action to review this design and provide better guidance.\u00a0
\r\nTomorrow\u2019s Plans:<\/strong> \u00a0Martin intends to finish a junction valve box tomorrow then has a Water Committee meeting at 5 PM. \u00a0He plans to start laying pipe and filling trenches on Thursday.
\r\nCommunity Concern:<\/strong> Luz said that there have been some accidents (no details provided) related to the open trenches and the community understandably would like the trenches to be closed quickly. \u00a0Martin said that he originally planned to install all the valve boxes first, but he agrees that it is now more important to get the trenches filled in soon. As mentioned above, Martin said he will start installing the pipe and closing the trenches on Thursday. \u00a0We briefly discussed our expectations for filling the trenches first with sand (20 cm) then with material\u00a0selecto (30 cm or more) and possibly topping off with the backfill material if suitably dense.
\r\nNext call:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0We agreed to hold our next brief status call on Thursday at 5:30 pm Nicaragua time.
\r\nOther Issues:<\/strong>\u00a0Yesterday\u2019s concern from Luz about a missing tap stand was resolved. \u00a0Javier sent out an updated KML file this afternoon which now shows STN 48A at the location of the original STN 48, partway up the road towards Adelayda\u2019s house.
